Garage marketing ideas
You're a great mechanic but marketing isn't your thing. Here are practical, low-cost marketing ideas that UK independent garages actually use to get more customers.
1. Google Business Profile (free)
The single most important marketing tool for a local garage. Claim and optimise your Google Business Profile: add photos, opening hours, services, and ask happy customers for reviews. Most people find garages by searching "garage near me". GBP is how you appear.
2. Online booking (included with Garegi)
A booking website turns website visitors into booked customers 24/7. Customers can book at 10pm on a Sunday while you're at home. Garegi includes a booking website with every subscription, no separate web developer needed.
3. SMS campaigns (included with Garegi)
Use your 300 included SMS per month for seasonal promotions: "Winter check special. Book online at [your-site.garegi.com]" or "Air-con re-gas £49, reply to book." Target customers whose vehicles are due for specific services.
4. MOT reminders (automated)
Not strictly marketing, but an MOT reminder that brings a customer back is the best kind of marketing. It costs almost nothing and has a high conversion rate. Garegi automates these from DVLA data.
5. Local SEO
- Make sure your website mentions your town/city name and the services you offer
- Get listed on local directories: Yell, Thomson, Checkatrade, Trust My Garage
- Consistent NAP (Name, Address, Phone) across all listings
- Blog posts about local motoring topics (optional but helps)
6. Referral incentives
"Recommend a friend, you both get £20 off your next service." Word of mouth is still the strongest channel for garages, and a small incentive accelerates it.
7. Leaflet drops
Old-school but effective. Target streets within 3–5 miles. Include your website and booking link. A simple "New to the area? Book your first service online" works better than listing every service you offer.
8. Social media (low effort)
You don't need to be on every platform. A Facebook page with occasional posts (before/after photos, seasonal tips, special offers) is enough for most garages. Link to your booking page in every post.
9. Fixed-price listings
List your service prices on your website. Customers compare garages online. If yours doesn't show prices, they'll choose one that does. Garegi's booking website shows service prices as part of the booking flow.
What not to do
- Don't pay for ads until you've exhausted free channels (GBP, SMS, referrals)
- Don't spend £5,000 on a custom website when a booking website is included with your GMS
- Don't discount your way to unprofitability. Offer value, not just low prices
Marketing that books itself.
