What Motasoft VGM offers

Motasoft (also known as VGM) offers three cloud-based tiers: Essential at £65 a month, Plus at £95 and Complete at £135. All tiers have free setup, no contract, unlimited users and UK-based support, a refreshingly simple pricing model compared to some competitors.

The Essential tier covers core workshop management: invoicing, estimates, job cards, customer history, MOT reminders, workshop diary and a Kanban board. The Plus tier adds Haynes technical data (repair times, wiring diagrams, service schedules). The Complete tier adds the technician companion app, digital VHCs with photos and videos, technician tracking and digital service schedules.

Motasoft integrates with GSF Car Parts and GroupTyre for ordering, exports to Xero (direct), Sage and QuickBooks, and offers an online booking widget. Every tier includes 100 SMS, 100 postcode lookups and 50 VRM lookups per month, with additional credits from 6p each.

Where garages outgrow Motasoft

The SMS and VRM allowances are conservative for busy garages. At 100 SMS and 50 VRM lookups a month on the base allowance, a four-bay garage doing 10 jobs a day will exceed both within the first two weeks. The credit top-ups are cheap (from 6p each), but they're still extra on top of the subscription.

The website is an add-on at £25 a month plus a £150 build fee. For garages where the website is how new customers find them, that's a modest cost, but it's still separate, and it's a template site rather than a custom build.

Garages that also run car sales or vehicle hire will find Motasoft doesn't offer modules for either. And while Motasoft integrates with GSF and GroupTyre, it doesn't have the Bond wholesale tyre integration that tyre-focused garages use for competitive wholesale pricing.

How Garegi compares

Garegi is more expensive than Motasoft on the headline number: £200 versus £65 to £135. But the £200 includes a customer booking website, 300 SMS per month, vehicle lookups, Bond wholesale tyre integration, digital inspections with photos and free data migration. The question isn't just "which is cheaper" but "which gives you more for what you pay."

Motasoft has a genuine advantage on technical data. Haynes repair times, wiring diagrams and manufacturer service schedules are available on the Plus and Complete tiers, and Garegi doesn't offer equivalent technical data. The VHC portal (vhc.report) on the Complete tier is also a strong feature for garages that sell work from inspection results.

Where Garegi is not the right choice

If budget is the primary concern and you need a working system for under £100 a month, Motasoft Essential at £65 delivers core workshop management at a price Garegi can't match. If Haynes technical data is essential to your workflow, Motasoft Plus at £95 has it. And if MTD (Making Tax Digital) compliance is a requirement and you want it built in rather than via a separate accounting package, Motasoft covers that.
